Well the first 24 hours is coming to a close. Wow. Our Pastor wrote a blog recently, about a woman that suffered a stroke and was left with a restricted vocabulary but one of the words she spoke well and often was WOW. As I lay here thousands of miles away from Austin in bed listening to frogs, distant fireworks and a thunderstorm that word WOW rings true. WOW what a God! I believe more and more as I read scripture that He wants us to pursue Him but also he is always at work making the way for us.
Take this trip for example. I wrote a blog post a few weeks ago about the difficulty leading up to the trip. It was honestly one of the toughest things I have ever done. You can read the blog post here. In fact, you probably should because the way God showed up since that day has been WOW! In short, the post talked about needing my business to pick up but sensing the need to step out on Faith. Faith, not that God would do something for us.. I mean, I guess that is part of it, but He wanted us to do something no matter the cost. No matter the costs, and let me tell you I can count some costs with the best of them. This thing Faith that He hinges everything on is just brilliant. Letting go of something you can try to control and just letting the chips fall and trusting that God’s plan is better, well that is just crazy. Or is it?
Over the past few years we have done that with a few things. I still can white knuckle things with the best of them but as I have let God take the wheel (sorry if that is a song) I find that He drives so much better. Granted, He drives like Batman does as He heads into his cave and just before you think you will SMASH against a rock cliff the doors open and WOW, you are some place that you could never have imagined or ever figured out on your own.
This trip has been that for us. As the trip drew closer, things at work went absolutely berserk. I mean, our biggest client called us to do these amazing jobs. Other groups called us to do work and it has been a huge blessing. And that is cool but that is not even the craziest thing….He just pours it on because He can.
So the business thing is HUGE by itself, right? Well, we get on the plane to come to Nica and we have no idea where we are staying; what it looks like or anything. We have some ideas. We knew there was a pool nearby and we were going to be near other homes. WOW! The place is just crazy cool. We are in paradise. Our house is like a cabana in Hawaii or something. We have a huge bermuda grass area that our front porch overlooks. There is a pool about 50 feet from the house. Everything is green and just gorgeous. Our neighbors are amazing people that love Jesus and there are KIDS. Three girls and a boy a little younger. The kids played all day. A woman named Marcia is coming three days a week and cleaning and we get to talk to her in Spanish.
I believe that HE did this. I believe that because I did not nor could I. We drove around today, these types of homes are not the norm. I don’t speak spanish very well. I know nothing about Nicaragua. But yet I am in a king size bed with the windows open. My son asleep at my side and Jeannie typing away next to him. The girls are asleep and right now I feel like the God that created the stars and the universe is drawing up the plan for tomorrow.
It is going to be a mixed bag. Some tough things we need to step through and trust the Lord to provide and then a cool amazing finish because he can. It is like Beck said last night after a tough day of traveling. “Pizza for dinner and driving without a seatbelt. AWESOME.” I mean isn’t it really all in how we look at what is happening to us? Sure there is tough stuff but God is in that and letting Him lead is the only way we get the “I got you” moments. He has us. You can drive if you want, but He will take you places and all you will be able to say is WOW!
