Our Advance Trip

Hello Friends!

We had a great advance trip to Costa Rica.  We saw many things, schools, various parts of San Jose, and met many people. Thank you so much for notes and great sendoffs as we were leaving, and thank you for praying!

There is so much ahead of us!  We met some great people there, and learned a lot about what’s already happening in Costa Rica.  We were blessed to meet with pastors, supporters of Young Life, leaders, Interns, staff, moms of YL kids, and met with a few families there that were wonderful and offered to help us find a place to live once we get there.  We spoke with them about schools, transitions for themselves and their kids, and we really think they will be great friends and support once we arrive.

We met up with the International Schools team, which isn’t big, two staff people, and 3 interns.

We heard about how they came to Costa Rica, what they enjoyed about the internship, what could be better, and then we got a chance to share our story, and some of what we hoped to do during our time there.  I especially liked this time b/c we’ll be working closely with interns once we get there helping to refine what internships will look like going forward.  It was so great to get a front row seat into their world, and hear about the many needs they have.

We visited many international schools while there, and got a great sense of schools and community for both the West and East sides of San Jose.  One of my favorite moments was Club on the West side with interns, a few leaders, and many kids from many nationalities.  Club was help in a Buddhist Yogi’s home, and we chatted about the Gospel in her kitchen as it ended.  Only God can do this.  :-)  She also gave us her card, offered to help us once we arrived to get settled, and we look forward to many friendships and relationships that Jesus creates for His glory. Here’s a few pics from that night during Club.

As club was winding down, everyone got in a circle and played signs as we waited for Parents to Pick up… The entire place was filled with laughter. WEB-3708

We were able to meet all the staff in Costa Rica and spent some time in the office there in the San Pedro area of San Jose.  We needed help interpreting with the National Director, Randall, but were so blessed by our conversations and as we spoke about our heart in reaching entire families in Costa Rica, we found that we shared vision.   We agreed that God will be our provider as we raise up national and International leadership either through clubs, schools, moms groups, administrations, internships and so much more.  He stated we will always be learning, and that we’ll do it together under a shared vision.  It was really a beautiful time connecting, and getting to know Nationals and North Americans there already on the ground.

Thank you so much for your prayers and many emails!  We are so blessed by all of you!  As we all seek Him, our prayer for all of us is to find whatever the next step is in our walk with Him, and that we’ll take it.  That we’ll dream big and pray for big things.   He works all things out for our good, and it’s in the knowing of His power and goodness that walking into this season for us is an honor, and not a burden; that we have hope and resist fear.  We are thankful for all of you!
